My mom is getting married tomorrow so she'll be leaving for the week so I'm planning on having fun while she's away. My siblings will be with my dad camping and my going to be step brothers will be with there and there is no telling where I will be. I don't really have any special plans so I'm guessing when the time comes ill find something to do but until then I'm ready to catch up on some sleep. If I had the chance to go somewhere on Spring Break I have no idea where I would go cause there's so many places that would be nice to get away for a week so I would probably just load up in the car and drive until I found the best place to be.Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-88297958135519000982009-01-28T10:57:00.003-06:002009-01-28T11:08:04.217-06:00A human interest story"It is so nice to hold your baby but it is so hard to learn how to take care of it, to make the first breastfeeding steps; you have to learn new things and amazing, the baby knows those things more than we, the mothers, do. We have to teach the mothers how to learn from their babies all the first steps they have to take in their relationship" Dr. Livia Ognean eloquently sums up the essence of her work as coordinator of the breastfeeding awareness campaign at the maternity in Sibiu, one of Romania’s largest cities.
***

A Maternity Hospital is a very special place. This is the place where you meet your child for the very first time.
Even if coming as a simple visitor, you can feel a peculiar buzz, a feeling of tension, of pain and happiness; nurses in a hurry, round bellies showing up around every corner, a blushing and restless mother-to-be…..this is a picture of day to day life at the Maternity Hospital in Sibiu.

The wards are clean, colourful, and the new mothers have their little ones next to them on the bed or sleeping in their separate cribs. This is what is called “rooming in”, in other words, the baby joins the mother right after birth. Due to lack of equipment not all maternity units can offer this facility to mother and child.
"The infant has to get close to its mother right after birth" - said Cristina Chiotan, UNICEF Health Programme Consultant. "It is recommended that the baby is put on the mother’s breast immediately after birth to hear the mother’s heart beat and feel the heart rhythm that the baby has been hearing for 9 months. That’s how the mother and child get attached to each other and, when they are together all the time, the mother can see what the baby is doing and she cans breastfeed whenever she has to".

Maria Popica is 24 years old but you could easily take her for 20. She is cheerful and very talkative. She gave birth in November, before she was due, to twin boys, Mihai and Gabriel. In the beginning she was hesitating to breastfeed. She had doubts if they were strong enough to suck or if she would have enough milk to feed them both. They are unbelievably small, two tiny little bodies in a transparent, closely monitored box.
"It is more difficult to breastfeed a premature child. That’s why we need well-trained staff to be there for the mothers and show them how to breastfeed and to encourage them" explained Livia Ognean.
"The same with the C section delivery, when the mother and the child are in intensive care, it is difficult as well".

The children who are exclusively breastfed for a long period of time are not only better fed. They are emotionally balanced; they have better social skills and a higher IQ. Breastfeeding helps prevent a number of serious adult conditions such as obesity and diabetes. It helps mother to recover faster and easier after giving birth and it helps prevents breast cancer and cervical cancer.

In theory, things are quite simple. Lactation is a physiological process which starts immediately after delivery; it is the cheapest and the best way to feed your new born. None of the artificial milk formulas have the same quality as mother's milk.

Nevertheless, not all mothers choose to breastfeed their baby in the first months of life.
"There are many obstacles, the doctor said. The battle is being fought at home, with the family and with the family physicians that don’t encourage the mother to breastfeed. It is very frustrating to fight this battle here, to think you’ve almost won and see the mother after a while who tells you that she no longer breastfeeds because my family physician told me my milk is not good". That is why we need support. UNICEF helped us with training courses on breastfeeding promotion for family physicians and for the community nurses who work with financially challenged large families who have little access to doctors.

Nonetheless, sometimes, the mother herself refuses to breastfeed. They are afraid of pain and some don’t do it for esthetic reasons. Most of the time, the mother who wants to give the child away refuses to breastfeed it. "Some cases are more complicated: unwanted pregnancy, very young women or women coming from socially and economically challenged families. But, you know, when they have their baby to their breast something happens ... I can’t describe it in words ... something, like a miracle. They find the courage to take the baby home and give up the whole idea of giving him or her away. We always try to encourage them, to explain that it is much better for them and for the baby and they are generally quite open to our suggestions". said Mrs. Livia Bârsan, the head nurse.

Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-30457892664449579462009-01-13T09:47:00.002-06:002009-01-13T10:13:30.635-06:00It's a Dog's World!!
All summer long the kids played baseball right behind my backyard and they were always hitting balls into my yard it made me so mad but then again it gave me something to chew on and play with. I loved to scare the kids every time they hit a ball over the fence I would wait for them to look through and I snatch the ball right off of the ground and scare them half to death they would run off screaming every time. One day a new kid joined the team so he was new to it all and he wasn't that good all day I was just waiting for someone to hit a ball over so I could get a scream out of the new kid. He played in the out field right by the fence to my yard so I knew he was bound to test my out sometime so lay there waiting for a ball when all of this sudden one flew over so I waited for the boy. Sure enough he tried to crawl over the fence to get the ball when all of his friends ran yelling NO! STOP! You can't go over there so the boy stopped and asked why so they told him to look through the hole in the fence so he did. I waited for a minute then when he least exspected it I snapped and he took of running and screaming just like I knew he would they weren't getting this ball back. I listened to them bicker about not getting to play for the rest of the day because they didn't have another ball on them what a bummer I thought to myself but I wasn't complaining I owned the ball it was mine now. Then I over heard the new kid say he would run home and get ball and he would be right back so I sat there and waited and when he finally got back they started palying and I was ready when that ball came flying over just like the rest of them. They all took off running to the fence to see if I snapped it up yet. I over heard them talking about he ball being signed by Babe Ruth the one and only. The kid who brought the ball had no idea who Babe was till his team told him and then he pretty much freaked out. They did everything you could imagine to try and get that ball back but I didn't let it happen they should watch out where they play cause once its over the fence, its mine!Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-18009479898696209652008-12-04T10:17:00.002-06:002008-12-04T10:25:37.750-06:00Christmas
Christmas is one of my favorite time of the year! I love being out of school for two weeks and getting to hang out with friends and family you don't see much. I enjoy getting new stuff but I mostly just like they break away from the stress of school, we all know how it is! Christmas is coming up really soon and I can hardly wait the year is just FLYING by its hard to believe. I hope the break goes by slow and fun because I'm really looking forward to it.Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-52964106134866604202008-11-07T09:44:00.002-06:002008-11-07T09:54:44.417-06:00JournalThis weekend I'm planning to just hang out. Saturday night ill probably hang out with my friend Kallie in Memphis we'll probably just ride around and chill with some friends. Sunday the family will go to church then ill go home and be lazy all day!Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-53775398203299178792008-10-29T10:17:00.002-05:002008-10-29T10:21:51.311-05:00Halloween Banned!I think that they should have told him to change or sent him home for the day. Its not fare for the others to have to suffer for his doings. If I were him I would right a speech and say it to the school so that I could explain just how sorry I was and why they should let our school have its Halloween fun back. I would apologize to everyone and promise to not mess anything else up for them. I would most of all do my best to make sure I wasn't the reason my friends couldn't have fun.Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-50312181063249877162008-10-27T09:43:00.002-05:002008-10-27T09:52:40.047-05:00Invisibility CloakIf I were able to be invisible I would do so many things I can't even begin to name them all, it would be crazy! I would do just about anything that is possible to do that I couldnt' to if I were visible I would ease drop, spy, lets just say I would figure a lot of things out it would be awesome!
The disadvantages would be that I couldn't make noise, I couldn't talk of breath loud it would be hard but I think I could do it.Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-91856584754344538812008-10-22T09:46:00.002-05:002008-10-22T10:03:28.182-05:00A MemoryA special memory to me was the day I learned to ride my bike it was a hot summer afternoon I was only about six years old and I had been riding with training wheels for as long as I could remember so I decided to try something new. My dad was working in the yard and my mom was at work so I went outside to ask my dad for some help I asked him if he would teach me to ride my bike with out training wheels. He responded as soon as you take a nap ill teach you so I sprinted inside to "take a nap" while my dad finished up the yard but I couldn't seem to fall asleep I was way too excited to sleep so I watched TV. A couple hours later I went outside to talk to my dad again and there was a new bike sitting on my porch WOW I said is this mine! My dad had went out and got me a brand new bike the only problem was I didn't know how to ride it yet so me and my dad went out to the street I was so nervous. I jumped on and my dad held on to my seat we went down the rode for a while and he said he was gonna let go I pretty much freaked out but I soon got the hang of it and my dad walked right beside me. This was one of my favorite memories because everyone needs a father daughter memory. :)!Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-43326084268581092342008-10-15T09:52:00.002-05:002008-10-15T09:59:51.697-05:00No more bonfire! The policy about not having a bonfire anymore made me some what mad because to me its kind of like a senior class memory its all about the graduating class of that year and now my class cant share that memory. I'm pretty much over it now because I know that I cant change the minds of others everyone has their own opinion and in their opinion they see to it that bonfire days are over. I wish we could still have bonfires they were fun and definitely something I would have liked to share with my class but I'm not going to dwell on it I'm going to see if they come up with anything else. I'm not sure what else we could do to take place of the bonfire but hopefully they will come up with something good.Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-35703516443848980602008-10-14T09:46:00.002-05:002008-10-14T09:52:15.340-05:00I wish..." I wish there were a law that said as long as you can pass the drivers test at the age of fifteen you could get your license". This would be a good law because I would be driving with a license right now and I wouldn't have to worry about getting in trouble because I don't speed and I do what i'm supposed to. So having a license would just make everything better with not having to worry about being pulled over and getting a ticket I would be worry free.Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-78699177424957432592008-09-18T09:45:00.002-05:002008-09-18T09:49:51.253-05:00Beauty vs. WealthIf I had to choose I would have to choose poor and beautiful because no one wants to be ugly and money isn't everything you can always think of ways to make some money but you cant make yourself beautiful. I would much rather have looks than wealth any day as long as you look good you can find a good looking wealthy guy to make you wealthy so you don't have to do a thing but look good!Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-81674347465879891802008-09-11T09:51:00.004-05:002008-09-11T10:02:06.163-05:00September 11September eleventh was a big deal and it remains a big deal today. I remember the moment it happened we were just about to start the day off by saying the pledge when they announced for all of the teachers to meet in the halls. We all tried to listen to what was being said out there but we just could not put the words together after a while Mrs. Robertson came back into the class and told us what had happened we all were confused about what it all meant. We turned on the TV and watched as the planes crashed the walls went down and many people losing their loved ones back then it did not seem like a big deal but today I see why it was. No one saw that coming no one knows whats going to happen next but your life is always on the line everyone should take time to thanks God that we are all still here living out our purpose. Today is nine eleven and you have the chance to be thankful that your living what will you do with it?Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8030200387654478041.post-89918438859391643652008-09-10T09:45:00.004-05:002008-09-10T09:52:04.792-05:00JournalIf there was one thing I could change about my life it would be for school to become easier and go back a lot faster, because school is only getting harder and the days seem to drag on. I don't particularly like school as it is and the fact we have a lot of homework every night just makes me like it less the work gets hard and its very annoying. I'm just ready for the summer to get here for another break and as long as I look on the positive side of things then it should all go smoothly.Lindsey :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/05175267639460346909noreply@blogger.com1
